Coolant-through holders for Swiss machining

GenSwiss has launched a line of high-pressure (up to 10,000 psi) coolant-through toolholders for Swiss-type machines. The “Coolant Thru” line features through-the-shank coolant delivery, which, according to GenSwiss, provides optimal insert lubrication, lengthens tool life and improves tool performance.

The holders’ interchangeable coolant-orifice plates reportedly ensure exact control over coolant volume, pressure and velocity at low, medium and high flow rates, resulting in more-efficient chip removal.

The holders feature 1/8" NPT connections, for easy integration into high-pressure coolant systems, and flexible, braided-steel delivery lines. The insert pocket conforms to ISO-style turning inserts: 80˚, 55˚ and 35˚. Standard shanks are 1/2" or 5/8" square; other sizes are available on request.

The coolant inlets of the toolholders incorporate standard NPT fittings, allowing for faster setups and more-accurate delivery of the coolant. In addition, GenSwiss reports, there is no need for custom, proprietary gang plates and no coolant manifold installation or other modifications to the coolant feed systems are required.

New “Coolant Thru” toolholders eliminate having to stop to clear chips during Swiss-type machining operations.
