Sept. 2, 2011—With a new research development out of Stanford University, the day could be coming when fashion police could fine you for wearing a plaid shirt with striped pants—without ever having to see such a thing in person.

Not that Stanford is selling the technology to fashion police, but researchers have developed a new method of attaching nanowire electronics to the surface of virtually any object regardless of its shape or material, according to the university.

So the day is coming when wearable electronics will set off an alarm when your shirt doesn't match your pants ...

The technology is said to have application in a variety of applications, including high-efficiency solar cells, ultra-sensitive biosensors and flexible computer displays.
