Micronit launches MEMS division
Nov. 1, 2011—Micronit Microfluidics BV, Enschede, The Netherlands, today formally launched Micronit MEMS, a new division specializing in the design, prototyping and manufacturing of glass-based microelectromechanical systems, products and wafers.

Micronit, known for manufacturing microfluidic lab-on-a-chip products, said it is making the move in response to an increasing demand for processing substrates for MEMS applications. "After finishing a couple of successful MEMS projects for customers, we decided to give it the attention it deserves, internally and externally" said Micronit co-founder and Managing Director Ronny van ‘t Oever.
"For prototyping and manufacturing," he added, "the same processes and equipment can be used as for making lab-on-a-chip products, which makes everything more cost-effective.”
Micronit MEMS will target LED applications, photovoltaics, static and active displays, fuel cells and sensors—all application areas that use a combination of glass and other materials such as silicon.
