Nano EDM

Among the electrical-discharge machines Sodicksells is an innovative EDM that can drill a 2.9μm hole.

A 2.9μm orifice drilled with the AE05 Nano EDM.

Named the “SPACE series,” the AE05 Nano EDM features Z-axis motion that is completely contact-free and supported in the air. The pneumatic static bearing allows fast, ultraprecise movement in 1nm increments and works in conjunction with the coreless linear motor to ensure rapid response. The motors are maintenance-free and deliver zero backlash.

A built-in CCD camera allows easy and precise measurement without changing the setup. The camera is capable of 3,500× magnification, allowing a 1μm detail to be viewed as a 3.5mm image.

The AE05 Nano EDM features a work table size of 70mm×70mm and maximum spindle speed of 50,000 min-1.

The machine features a pneumatic static bearing (Z-axis), coreless linear motor (for Z-axis) and fully closed cabinet. The machine body surface is designed to maintain a constant temperature.

Specifications include:

  • Work table size of 70mm×70mm
  • Work tank size of 306mm×116mm×38mm
  • X-axis travel of 50mm, Y-axis travel of 50mm and Z-axis travel of 25mm
  • Maximum spindle speed of 50,000 min-1
  • Maximum electrode weight of 0.5 kg
  • Maximum workpiece weight of 2 kg
  • Machine tool dimensions of 1,560mm×1,570mm×1,500mm
  • Machine tool weight of 800 kg

Sodick’s North American headquarters is located in Schaumburg, Ill.
