The 8-month renovation project, which included several equipment upgrades, and a new machine-tool and shop-floor layout that reduces material travel distances, is expected to enable the company's lean manufacturing program. The company also added a new energy efficient roof, installation of high-efficiency HVAC systems plant-wide, new lighting throughout and a fully resurfaced floor.
“Our goal was to create a world-class manufacturing environment for our valued employees, exceed our customers' expectations and promote our continuous improvement culture,” said Wayne Foley, Midwest Precision's president.
The company also reported the new layout cuts overall material travel distances by nearly half, not to mention a 30 percent reduction in energy costs.
“Our objective is to be the premier, precision machining and assembly contract manufacturer in the world, and we are taking the necessary steps to achieve that objective,” said Foley. “Continuous improvement and lean manufacturing are essential keys to that goal.”
