Sarix SA's new EDM machining centers

Sarix SA unveiled its MACHline family of microEDM machining centers at the recently completed EMO 2009. The MACHline's Twin Axis system allows multiple operations to be peformed on one machine and, because of the machine's large work envelope, permits microscale features to be produced on large parts.

The microscale processing capabilities that can be combined include: EDM drilling, EDM sinking, wire-EDM electrode grinding, 3-D EDM milling, laser ablation and 3-D scope measuring.

The images above and below show the MACHline machining center Sarix displayed at EMO 2009. The machine has a large work envelope that allows micromachining to be performed on large parts. The machine at EMO was fitted with an EDM head and a supplementary laser unit.

All EDM axes are concentrated in a core unit, a lightweight X-, Y- and Z-axis module. The large positioning axes have travels of 650mm (U), 500mm (V) and 450mm (W).

An optional toolchanger can automatically load electrodes of different diameters, thanks to a new multidiameter collet that is designed to maintain optimal flushing conditions with each diameter.

MACHline tech specs include:

--EDM axes: X, 100mm; Y, 100mm; Z, 100mm (glass scale resolution, 0.1μm)

--Accuracy: +/- 2μm

--Positioning axes: U, 650mm; V, 500mm; W 450 mm (glass scale resolution, 0.1μm)

--Tilting positioning axes: A, +/-90°; B, 360°

--Power supply: 400 VAC, 3 phase, 6 KVA

--Air pressure: 6 bar dry.

Other features:

--Machine temperature conditioning

--Integrated basic pneumatic cabinet

--Safety operation area

--Ergonomic control panel.
