Tools for thin grooving and microturning
Multidec 1600 series thin grooving and micro turning tools can be used on parts less than 0.125" in diameter utilizing insert widths ranging from the thickness of a human hair (0.0019") up to 0.108", according to developer Genevieve Swiss Industries, Westfield, Mass.

The company said the tools offer repeatability within 0.0004" and are well suited for high-precision machining of 316L stainless steel and 6Al-4V titanium in orthopedic, medical tools and dental implant applications. Tools are ground from premium carbide grades for enhanced tool life and are available with a variety of coatings. Holder shanks as small as 7mm are designed to fit even the smallest Swiss machines from Citizen, Star, Maier, Okuma and other builders. Tool holders for larger machines are also available.
Genevieve Swiss says the tools offer geometries that can be used for front or back turning, micro threading and cut-off work. Full-radius grooving and turning tools are also available in standard increments, and the tools can also handle face grooving and ID work on larger parts, the company reports.
