MICROmanufacturing

LasX Industries focus

Founded in 1998 in Minneapolis, Minn., LasX Industries Inc. provides laser module solutions for laser ablation, scribing and, soon, for micro polishing. LasX President William Dinauer and Process Engineer Tyler Perry sat down with MICROmanufacturing Electronic Media Editor Dennis Spaeth for a video interview during The 5th International Conference on MicroManufacturing (ICOMM/4M 2010).

"The sole goal then (in 1998) as now is laser material processing of products being used in medical markets, print markets, flexible packaging and electronics," said Dinauer. The LasX LaserSharp Module, for example, is well-suited for microfluidic applications.

In addition, the company is researching a LaserSharp Module for micro laser polishing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory. The research is being funded through Grant Opportunities for Academic Liaison with Industry (GOALI), a National Science Foundation program.
