Dec. 13, 2010—Slovenia researchers recently demonstrated full 3-D tunable lasing in laser dye-doped cholesteric liquid-crystal (CLC) microdroplets from 15µm to 50µm in diameter—a first, according to an article in the Dec. 10 issue of Optics Express, an international online journal of The Optical Society.

Oct. 8, 2010—In the video below, Raydiance Inc.'s ultrafast Smart Light laser ablates a kitchen match—without lighting it. The Smart Light is suited for medical device manufacturing, medical therapies, biosciences, industrial laser processing and defense markets.

Sept. 27, 2010—Control Micro Systems, which sells laser systems for marking and other applications, earlier this year posted a video to YouTube demonstrating its desktop laser marking ability. The Winter Park, Fla., company filmed its desktop laser marking 2-D codes into the slots on the head of a small screw.
